Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Looking For Hub/Drums For Dexter 6,000 lb EZ Lube Axle
Hello Matthew, thanks for reaching out. We do have hubs for the Dexter 6K axles, but there are a few possible bearing combinations, so I will need a bit more info from you. The best way to narrow down exactly what you need will be with the casting number from your hub. Hub/drums have a casting number right on the front, so if you remove a wheel you should be able to easily see it. For Dexter is should be a 4 digit number like "8-219" or something like that. Provide me with that number...

  • Replacement Hub/Drum and Brake Assemblies for 6k Hub with 8 Lug Bolt Pattern
Hey Tom, we have the correct hub/drum you are looking for with the part # 42866UC3-EZ if you have 1/2 inch wheel studs or the part # 8-219-13UC3 for if you have 9/16 inch diameter studs. Then for brake assemblies you'd just need the part # AKEBRK-7-SA for a set of a left and a right and you'd be set. Basically the 5.2k and up to 7k axles use the same brake components which is why the parts I mentioned say they fit that range of axle capacity.

  • Looking For Replacement For 8-219 Hubs
Hello Tristin, thanks for reaching out. You are correct the 8-219 is the part number for your hub. This hub uses a # 25580 (1.75" inner diameter) inner bearing and # 14125A (1.25" inner diameter) outer bearing. The seal is a 2.125" ID/3.376" OD. There are a few options for a replacement hub, so please select from the following: 1/2" Wheel Studs Grease Cap # 8-219-4UC3 1/2" Wheel Studs EZ-Lube Cap # 8-219-4UC3-EZ 1/2" Wheel Studs Oil Bath Hub # 8-219-9UC3 9/16" Wheel Studs Grease Cap #...

  • Replacement Electric Brakes and Hub/Drum Assemblies
Thanks for your question, Stefanie! There aren’t any hub-and-drum assemblies rated specifically for 6.6K, so based on the info, it’s most likely that you have a 7K axle. I'm not 100% certain on your wheel stud size, but for 7K axles, we typically see either 1/2" or 9/16" studs. Here are the two hub options based on each size: 1/2" studs – part # 42866UC3-EZ 9/16" studs – part # 8-219-13UC3 To go with those hubs, the matching electric brake kit would be part # 23-464-465. If you can...

  • Recommended Replacement Brake Hubs and Brakes for a Dexter 7K Axle
I wasn't able to find anything relating to that part number and since you're unsure of what you have I'd just recommend swapping the entire hub to make everything easier. You're just going to need to choose the hubs that have your current wheel studs. For 1/2" studs with a grease cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3, For 1/2" studs with an E-Z lube cap you'll want # 8-219-4UC3-EZ, For 1/2" studs with an oil bath hub you'll want # 8-219-9UC3, For 9/16" studs with a grease cap you'll want # AKHD-865-7-1-K, For...

The pilot hole for your wheel will need to be 4-3/4" or more to be used with Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-219-13UC3. This is a lug-centric hub which uses lug nuts to secure the wheel to the hub and your wheel will need to have an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern to work with the hub.

  • Suspension Enhancement For a 2021 Grand Design Momentum 353G With 7,000LB Dexter Axles
First I recommend the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs # SS26MV be added to your axles. As these are designed for a single axle you will need 2 of the kits. It seems strange that the springs would be damaged as they are not that old and are likely carrying a lot of weight. These helper springs will help relieve some of the weight and provide some additional support to your leaf springs. As they springs are progressive they also help to reduce a lot of the shock that is transferred through...

  • Can 1/2 Inch Wheel Studs be Changed to 9/16 Inch Wheel Studs
It may be possible to change your studs from 1/2" to 9/16" so long as the studs are drive-in (as opposed to threaded); also, the length and knurl diameter needs to be the same. For example, the Kodiak Wheel Bolt - 9/16" Diameter x 2-1/2" Long # K916WB25 has a 0.685" knurl diameter. So you do need to have some very specific measurements, otherwise you will need to change your hub to get that size wheel stud. Since you said your hub says 8-219 that would indicate that you need the Dexter hub part # 8-219-13UC3 as a replacement. This is a hub for higher capacity axles between 5,200 and 7,000 lbs and has a bolt pattern of 8 on 6-1/2 inches.

  • Trailer Hub and Drum with 8 on 6-1/2 Bolt Pattern and 9/16 Studs for 7,000 Pound Axles
The size socket used isn't necessarily going to be the same as the nut or stud thread size. It is usually larger since the outer width of a hex head is larger than the threaded diameter. Hub and drum assembly # 8-219-13UC3 for 5,200 to 7,000 pound axles does indeed have a stud diameter of 9/16 and would take 9/16 inch lug nuts. We also have the similar etrailer model, # AKHD-865-7-1-EZ-K, that also has 9/16 inch studs. Both it and the above assembly are for EZ Lube axles. If your axles...

  • What Cone Angle Lug Nuts for Hub on 7K Trailer Hub/Drum
The hub, such as the Dexter # 8-219-13UC3 doesn't care which lug nut you use, as long as it's compatible with the 9/16 inch wheel stud diameter. The wheel itself is what dictates whether a coned lug nut is needed and what angle the cone needs to be. Most stud piloted wheels (most trailer wheels) would use a 60º coned lug nut like # 6-53 for a steel wheel or # LHLR110 for an aluminum wheel.
